Please join us in celebrating Ralph DeVitto’s distinguished career as he leaves after 21 years of outstanding service to the American Cancer Society (ACS) and American Cancer Society – Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). And what better way to honor someone’s life achievements then by creating the opportunity to contribute to further work on behalf of the mission that he so embodied.
Ralph’s roots with ACS began in 1996 as VP for Government Relations. He then transitioned to Senior VP for Advocacy and Public Policy where he lead many successful campaigns to the betterment of the people of Florida. Ralph later moved up to COO of ACS and eventually the EVP of the Florida Division in 2009 which he led until his recent retirement.
Some highlights of his career include:
*implementation of the Laureate Society which due to its high level of success was then launched nationwide
*led efforts to significantly increase cancer research funding
*led efforts to pass constitutional amendments to ensure clean indoor air as well as to full fund Florida’s youth tobacco education program
*led the charge to “Pass the Buck” by increasing the state’s cigarette tax
*served on the Florida Tobacco Education and Use Prevention Advisory Council to further represent the needs and mission of the ACS
*executed the country’s leading MSABC program using a community-based volunteer model
These are monumental achievements that continue to benefit so many today! As Paul Hull, Managing Director of the North Region for ACS CAN, aptly dubbed Ralph the “Godfather of Tobacco Control in Florida”; he has clearly lived up to that reputation.
As you can see, Ralph started with advocacy and has always been the biggest supporter of ACS CAN and thus we felt a fitting tribute to his exceptional service would be to create the opportunity to donate monies that will help further that mission. Please consider joining us in honoring Ralph!
